Newbridge In-Frame Shaker Taupe Grey & Willow
This beautiful cottage renovation in a quiet village on the outskirts of Guildford required a traditional kitchen to suit the overall surroundings perfectly.
We opted for our Newbridge range (crafted exclusively for Ella Austin by Aisling Artisan), in the 2-tone colour combo of Taupe Grey for the perimeter and Willow on the island, constucted from solid Ash for a beautiful visible woodgrain finish (with a nod to the many original beams)
We were up against the usual classic cottage hurdles - wonky walls and beams galore! Our fitters love a challenge!
The client wanted to retain as much of the original cottage as possible, so rather than knocking through into another room and creating an open-plan kitchen/living space, they decided to keep the kitchen in it’s own dedicated room, and by doing so it means an extra wall for more cabinetry - something that’s often overlooked is when knocking through you lose a wall so usually have to be clever with storage design, whereas keeping the kitchen in it’s own room means there’s so much more wall space for more kitchen cabinets.
At first glance this room may appear to be on the smaller side compared to other open-plan projects we’ve completed, but in terms of cabinet count it’s actually one of the bigger jobs we have done!
We wanted to keep the island clear so first step was to locate the sink under the window, then we put the hob in the middle of the remaining perimeter run - which we picked a modern Bora vented induction hob (ducted straight out of the external wall behind) which also means full use of the wall cabinet above.
We went with 3 Neff Collection eye-level ovens (2x full ovens and 1x compact oven with microwave) housed in a tall bank of cabinetry, with bespoke internal storage for trays, chopping boards etc.
On the adjacent wall we have the tall integrated fridge, then 2x highly functional pantry cupboards - 2x double door internally illuminated dressers with door-mounted spice racks above, with 2x double cupboards featuring internal oak pull-outs below, offering a huge variety of storage.
We also included a hidden intregrated freezer, large wine cooler on the island, as well as some clever bespoke internal storage solutions around the sink - internal pull-outs (finished with solid oak accents) - 1x for cleaning essentials and the other corner pull-out for further general storage.

The sink cabinet is something in particular to note. We went with a classic 800mm Villeroy & Boch Belfast sink, which does use up a bit of cupboard space. The client wanted a Quooker boiling tap, Quooker Cube (for sparkling water) plus a waste disposal unit, so it can become a challenge to squeeze all that equipment into a small area. In this situation we make our Belfast sink cabinets with a dropped bottom panel, so all of the tanks and accessories sit perfectly in the lower section of the cabinet and everything fits in perfectly. Because of the lost storage space under the sink we included a base pull-out cabinet next to the sink for keeping all the cleaning products in a dedicated space and close to hand.
