This fabulous kitchen extension was all about proportion. Huge ceiling heights (and tall clients) meant we were able to incorporate extra tall cabinetry to perfectly compliment the room, whilst providing an abundance of storage. Matching utility and boot room also completed at the same time.
We’re quite often asked by clients to design their cabinetry right upto the ceiling. Whilst this can obviously provide more internal storage space, it doesn’t always work from a design or practicality point of view (not to mention costings), so we are always very careful when approaching a design with this in the brief.
This fabulous kitchen extension features huge ceiling heights, and a variety of vaulted/angled areas, so proportions were vital when we set to design this one. The clients are particularly tall so we decided to keep base unit cabinetry as standard but went for extra tall wall cabinets - each wall cabinet is a massive 1250mm tall (which is a standard size sometimes used for larder cabinets!). Even the style of cabinetry door we used was thoughtfully considered in-line with the proportions of the room and we opted for a slightly wider rail & stile thickness (shaker profile) to work perfectly with the overall scheme.
Due to the size of the room, and the required specification, budgets can very easily and quickly spiral out of control so we went with as many standard size cabinets as possible to keep costs under control, but we did also introduce a few bespoke elements to ensure the kitchen worked perfectly in the space with no compromises - this includes the tall cabinetry run with bespoke double bifolding breakfast pantry cupboard, and cross-rails on all tall doors perfectly aligned.
Other little details included an integrated microwave, slightly out of sight on the island, comfortable island seating for 4, and the bespoke mantle was designed and built with height in mind (to avoid heads clashing on the mantle shelf!)
